Apple Care I Don’t Think So
44 Days to Get a Mac Fixed. Recently my Mac had a problem. I noticed that I was unable to burn CD’s or DVD’s. As I have Apple Care on my Mac I called them and ran through there problem solving process over the phone. It did not work. Eventually they agreed to fix my Mac’s super drive that I had suspected was faulty. No problem I have Apple Care cover. So in a few days and it will be fixed.
How wrong could I be? On 31/08/2005 we took my Mac to Gordon Harwood Computers. Who were very helpful and friendly. I waited. It turned out that there were no replacement super drives in Europe. And they did not know when they would be any.
I waited. Then after many phone calls I got through to customer service in Apple. Who were very sorry for my problem, but what could they do?
FedEx a super drive over from the states for me. Sorry can’t do that.
Ok get me a non apple drive please. Can’t do that.
Ok if I buy a non apple super drive will you reimburse me? Can’t do that.
By this stage I was pulling my hair out, because I use the Mac to run my business after this amount of time I really needed a computer. A very good friend of mine Eric Solari gave me one of his. So I started to learn how to use a PC. I had backed up the Mac on to an external hard drive so I thought I could get all my necessary info. WRONG. The PC could not read the external hard drive. As it was formatted for a Mac.
More calls to Apple Care still no news. Then on 22/9/05 a helpful gentleman with apple said they could lend me a loan machine. Thank god. Apple sent me the contract for the loan machine and I sent it back.
Then they called me to say the super drives would be in the UK next week. Brilliant. Replacement Mac and the super drives soon. Wrong. Apple Care canceled the replacement machine and did not tell me they had done so.
On the 12/10/05 I picked up my Mac with her new super drive from Gordon Harwood.
She works wonderful. As compensation Apple Care reimbursed me £94.72p Thank you apple.
As compensation they sent me a wireless apple key board. Brilliant. Wrong. No instructions no wireless mouse to go with it, no adaptor to plug into the Mac to make it all work. So it is of no use to me what so ever.
I would however like to thank Mike Hull who works for apple for his help in getting my mac back.
I really did not expect this level of service from Apple. Still after the problems with the I Pod what are we supposed to expect.
Will I ever buy another Mac computer?
Yes and I have a new mac pro.
