New Year Resolutions or Failures
New Year Resolutions or Failures
Did you make new years goals? And once again not kept them.
Around this time of year hypnotists, hypnotherapists and therapists get calls from people who have failed to keep there new years resolutions.
May be you are one of them.
Moreover, getting professional help to get what you want in your life is a very good idea.
So were did you go wrong?
How well did you plan what you have decided, what it was you wanted in your life?
Zig Ziglar once said, A goal casually set and lightly taken will be freely abandoned at the first obstacle
Did you set your new years resolutions lightly with no thought, and are now wondering were you went wrong?
In December last year, I spent 3 weeks planning how I wanted 2006 to be for me.
I read nine books on goal setting and manifestation, and spent hours thinking through what I will achieve this year, and I am on course.
Jim Rohan a respected motivation coach says
- 95% of people do not have written goals and fail to achieve them
- 5% of people have written goals and achieve them
So it seams that writing out your goals is one of the most powerful ways to get what you want. Well yes and no.
The first thing you need to do is to invest time thinking about what you want.
In detail
- What do you desire?
- Why do you desire it?
- Who will benefit?
- Who will not benefit?
- Who will it affect in your life?
Go through this in as much detail as you can.
Then take a real look at were you are now and were you want to be.
Do this honestly, and if it will affect a partner get them to do it with you.
This will give you a good idea as to what changes you will need to make in your life, and change will be vital remember
Unless you change you thinking and behaviours, nothing will change
Now spend time in your imagination living as if all your desires are true and you are now living your life with all your resolutions working and active.
How is your new life?
This is a simulation. You are rehearsing your life for the same reasons pilots use simulators, to run through all the variables and to look for problems and discover the challenges and how to overcome them.
Dr Richard Bandler co-creator of NLP once had me do this exercise for one of my outcomes. After spending one year living in this new life, (we used time distortion to do this) I discovered that some of my goals were not really, what I wanted.
The reality of living this way was not congruent with me.
Had I proceeded I would have ended up unhappy.
Of course, the chances of reaching this goal were slim, as my subconscious mind would have probably prevented the outcome due to incongruence.
Who Do You Need To Become.
This is the most fun rewarding and sometimes challenging part of the whole processes.
- What changes do you need to make to your daily habits and thought processes?
- What beliefs do you need to acquire?
- What beliefs do you have to change?
- What attitudes are different in your life?
- What are the daily habits of this new you?
- Were do you live?
- How do you dress?
- What friends are gone?
- Who has replaced them?
Running the simulation and noticing your habits attitudes and more important what beliefs you now have and what beliefs you have let go of in order to be this new you.
It is obvious that the new you will not be the same as the old. When you have acquired these new life parts of you, your old life will not be the same.
Some people decide that the changes are too great, and if you decide to stay as you are that is fine, you will have to live with that decision.
So who do you need to be come in order to make the changes?
